The Grevelingen oyster is the same oyster as the Japanese or the creuse. The big difference is in the water management and the place where the oyster grows up. As a result, the taste of the Grevelingen oyster can differ greatly from, for example, the same type of oyster that comes from the Wadden Sea. The Grevelingse oyster grows up in the waters of Zeeland, the Grevelingen, hence the name. The wild Japanese oyster does not originally come from European waters. Decades back, this oyster was imported from the east. Originally, the Crassostrea gigas originates from the waters of the Pacific, from Japan to America. This oyster has different names like the Japanese oyster, but on the other side of the plas it is called this Pacific oyster. In Europe, the Japanese oyster, creuse, is called, where it is present in large numbers in the wild. The Japanese oyster is a strong, whimsical long shaped oyster. The oyster has been able to stand well, actually too well in our colder waters. The explosive growth of this oyster can be described as enormous. The wild Japanese oyster quickly overgrown everything and poses a major threat to other species that occur in our waters. There is also another side to the coin. The Japanese oyster is frequently grown on oyster beds at different locations in Europe. This cultivated oyster is then given a variety of different names such as Marennes, Fine claires, and Gillardeau. In fact, they are all the same oysters, the Creuse.
