Herring is perhaps the most famous and consumed species of fish in our waters. The herring occurs in the waters of the North Atlantic from Alaska, Canada to Norway and in the waters of the North Sea. Herring can reach a length of 45cm with a weight of 1kg. The herring lives in large schools to a depth of more than 300m. The herring is a silver-colored fish and has a dark blue/green backing. Depending on the season, the fresh herring are usually frozen on board for the production of the new herring, and freezing kills any herring worm that may be present.
