Dulse (Palmaria palmata), also called dillisk or creatnach, belongs to the red algae (Rhodophyta). Dulse grows along the northern shores of the Atlantic and Pacific. The deep red/brown/purple colored flat leaves (about 30 cm long) grow directly from the hold and look like a fanning palm.
With a discoid (disc-shaped) foot, dulse attaches itself to the stem-like part of Laminaria or to rocks. The flat blade slowly widens and divides into broad segments that can reach up to 50 centimeters in length and 3–8 cm in width.
