Palourde is the French-speaking name of this shell and is internationally known as Manila Clam. The Palourde belongs to the ventious. Palourde has a strong resemblance to the vongole but has a slightly brownish glow and has been less spotted. The Palourde is higher classified than the Italian-derived spark pole. The palourde often has more flesh and is stronger than the vongole. Originally from Pacific waters, the palace was planted in European waters in the 20th century. The Palourde is mainly grown but wild specimens are now also found in our own waters.
