The Atlantic bonito is a tuna-like species, which originates from the large family of the mackerel cephalopods. This specimen looks very similar to a small tuna and is therefore also called bonito. Unlike many other tuna species, the Atlantic bonito is not hot-blooded but cold-blooded and therefore belongs more to the mackerel. The Atlantic bonito has 7 to 9 distinctive stripes on its top. Atlantic bonito can reach a length of 90 cm with a weight of 10 kg, and swim to a depth of 200 m. This fish is found in the Mediterranean and on the east side of the Atlantic. It also occurs in the waters from Argentina to Canada. The Atlantic bonito is a fast-growing fish that feeds on ink (fish) and shrimps, but the fish also eats its own species.
