Gambero Viola mazare hoso 900 gr (Aristeus antennatus) is a type of deep-sea shrimp, commonly known as red shrimp or shrimp from Palamós. The shrimp is traditionally fished off the coast of Palamós and in other Catalan coastal towns such as Blanes, Arenys, Roses or the coast of Tarragona. Exactly the same crustaceans are also caught in the Mediterranean Spanish cities of Dénia, Garrucha and Huelva. It has a very intense red color and is appreciated for its fine, firm and tasty meat. It is caught with the technique of bottom trawls and in the summer they are usually more abundant and larger in size. They are dermersal gambas and therefore live on the muddy bottom of the ocean, they live at a depth of 200 meters during the day and at 800 meters at night. They feed on small benthic invertebrates mainly crustaceans and polychae and also bait. Hoso means head to it, scale on it.
