Description
This fish is also called cherne in Europe. This specimen is a grouper and originates from the great family of the cephalopods. Cherne is a deep sea fish and lives up to a depth of 500 m. Cherne (also called wreck fish) can become monstrous and can reach a length of 130 cm with a weight of 100 kg. The cherne is found in the Atlantic from England to South Africa and from Canada to Brazil and Australia. This fish is not unknown in the Mediterranean either. Cherne has a fantastic look with remarkably large spikes on her head. The fish is mostly dark gray in color with a number of rows of scales.
